Impulse buyer

If you are an impulse buyer, take a picture of the desired purchase. If you still want it 24 hours later (and you can afford it), consider returning to purchase.

Fanatical buyer

"Extreme couponers” are good examples of fanatical buyers. These shoppers may end up with things they will never use simply because it’s a good price.

Avoidance shoppers

Shop to make themselves feel better; a.k.a. "retail therapy”. There are healthy and unhealthy ways to cope with stress. Recreational shopping can interfere with your ability to achieve long-term goals. Find another activity that you enjoy.

Passive buyer

This type of buyer does not seek value for hard-earned money. Consider devoting a little time to comparison shop. The internet makes this very convenient.

False self-esteem buyer

Money can’t buy me love! Neither can things. If you overspend due to esteem issues, meet with a counselor to get at the root of the issue.

Excessive spending on hobbies or habits

Overspending on your passion may compromise long-term financial security. Reprioritize your spending. Find a way to enjoy the present while preparing for the future.
