The Fall 2003 issue of World Ark (page 42), the magazine published by 503(c) Heifer International, cited five good reasons to die without a will.

Since 70% of Americans die without one, we thought we would share them with you.

 5. Your grieving loved ones will be better off looking after your affairs without your will.

4. The government will use your estate tax dollars more efficiently than your favorite charity would.

3. The court will choose a more caring guardian for your minor children than you would.

2. The court will choose a better personal representative to handle your estate during probate.

1. The court can do a better job disbursing your assets.

Most people procrastinate drawing up a will and other estate documents.

Let’s be honest. Ain’t none of us getting out of this world alive. Taking the time to prepare these documents is among the most loving things you can do for those who survive you.

We know this too well. Dear friends were killed in a car accident a few years ago. They died without wills, unintentionally leaving their loved ones to pick up the pieces.

Be loving, be responsible. Get an estate plan.
